Skinvision-Radar for blind people | Skinvision-radar for blind people

Description

The invention contains a radar, which measures all the distances of the objects in the room. These data are processed by a program, which firstly selects the distances shorter than a given (standard) distance, then range them from 1 to 6 (as it can be seen in the figure). The other part of the invention is a construction attached to the skin (palm). The small device is able to move hundreds of spikes placed as a matrix forward and backward. The spikes can contact the skin with 6 various forces from softly push to hard push. The strength of the push depends on the distance range of the object (the closer the object, the harder is the push). Thus the user “feels” the objects nearby directly on the skin.

The idea of this project is interesting and tries to solve an old and still unsolved demand namely the better orientation of visually impaired or blind people. The proposed solution can be feasible but further biotechnological research is required. Adapting the pin system to touch sensing, i.e. the pressure, the distance between the pins, the optimisation of the grid arrangement all demand further detailed consideration.

Now a closer collaboration with biotechnological research background is necessary to complete the research.
